July 7th Protest
On the evening of Thursday, July 7, 2016 at about 7:00 PM, a group of demonstrators gathered at Frank Ogawa Plaza. The group began with approximately 100 and throughout the evening grew to approximately 2000.
Oakland Police Officers facilitated a safe march along the Broadway corridor towards 6th and Broadway at which time approximately 1000 went onto the 880 freeway, blocking traffic in both directions and the other 1000 remained on the city streets. The California Highway Patrol managed the incident on the freeway.
The crowd is about 500 at this time
At this time it has been reported:
• Vandalism to the Police Administration Building, paint on doors, scratches on glass and broken glass (possible suspect ID via video)
• Smart and Final broken window, arrest made.
• Footlocker broken windows (Broadway)
• Graffiti on window of Chase Bank at 14th and Broadway
• Graffiti on columns in the 1000 block of Broadway
• Small fire on freeway 880 (Cal Trans sign board)
At this time there are no reported injuries.
