Stabbing-3700 Harrison Street

On September 1, 2016, at 3:29 A.M., Oakland Police officers responded to the 3700 block of Harrison Street on a report of a stabbing. The caller advised that his brother was acting erratic, armed with a knife, and attacking others inside the residence.

When officers arrived on scene they observed three victims who were suffering from apparent stab wounds, lacerations and a bite.

The suspect, who was still armed with the knife, was being restrained by two of the residents. Officers directed the suspect to drop the knife, he did not comply. At least four of the officers on scene were CIT trained (Crisis Intervention Team).

These are officers who have additional training skills in de-escalation of force. The officers attempted to establish compliance with the suspect but he refused and was subsequently Tased. Officers struggled with the suspect who was eventually restrained. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where officers requested a mental health evaluation. One of the victims was also transported to a local hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition.

An officer, who suffered minor injury during the struggle, was medically treated at a local hospital.
