Warriors Victory Parade Tomorrow / Thursday, June 15

Oakland, CA – As the victory celebration draws near, the City of Oakland announced additional details to help facilitate a smooth event tomorrow. The parade steps off at 10 am and the rally begins at 12:15 pm at the south end of Lake Merritt. For the most up-to-date and detailed information about how to enjoy the celebration, visit:  www.oaklandnet.com or www.warriors.com/parade.

Traffic, Transportation and Parking Updates
Look out for parking restrictions in the downtown area. By 6 pm today, OPD will begin towing vehicles parked in no-parking zones.

The rally area at the south end of Lake Merritt in front of the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center will be closed tonight at 7 pm and will reopen at 9 pm, with all incomers subject to bag checks. The back-stage area will be off limits to anyone without a credential. See map for pedestrian access restrictions near the rally site [http://www2.oaklandnet.com/w/oak064330].

Plan ahead for your Thursday morning commute as there will be traffic restrictions starting at 6 am. The cross streets of 14th and 20th   streets will close at 9 am, or earlier if downtown is full. You can exit the area, but not re-enter until after the streets re-open. Parking lots and garages are expected to fill early. Take BART or AC Transit if possible. More detailed street closure information is presented below and on www.oaklandnet.com.

At 7 am tomorrow, three I-880 off-ramps to downtown Oakland will be CLOSED: Oak St., Jackson St. and Broadway. These onramps will be re-opened when it is safe.

Free parking is available at the Oakland Coliseum, Lots A & B, between 8 am and 4 pm. Drivers can park at the Coliseum and take BART to downtown Oakland.

General Traffic and Transit Information for Parade & Rally
We’re expecting more than a million spectators for the victory celebration in downtown Oakland, so expect large crowds, traffic, and delays starting very early Thursday morning and lasting throughout the day.

Parking will be limited and will fill up early, so plan to take public transportation (see detailed BART and AC Transit information below).

In addition to the crowds, no-parking zones and street closures will make driving in downtown Oakland very difficult starting early Thursday morning. Specific street-by-street closures are detailed below. Once the downtown area fills up, vehicles will not be allowed entry or will be re-routed out of the area. Motorists should be especially alert given the large number of pedestrians.

Look for posted no-parking signs in the downtown area, with restrictions that began on Tuesday, June 13 at 8pm through Thursday, June 15 at 6pm.

Most of the parking restrictions at the parade staging location, along the parade route, and at the rally site will be in place for 24 hours starting on Wednesday, June 14 at 6pm through Thursday, June 15 at 6pm.

Given the crowd size, plan on attending either the parade or the rally as the rally site is expected to reach maximum capacity early Thursday morning. It will be impossible to travel from the parade route to the rally site.

No boats or watercraft will be allowed on Lake Merritt or the Estuary Channel on Thursday.

Parade Route
The parade begins on Broadway at 11th Street at 10am, then proceeds north up Broadway before turning right on Grand Avenue, then right on Harrison, left on to 19th Street, then right onto Oak before terminating outside the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center and along Lake Merritt Blvd. for the rally.

Port-a-potties and hydration stations to re-fill your water bottle will be scattered along the parade route. For parade details and a map, visit http://www.warriors.com/parade.

Rally Celebration
The rally celebration will be held at the south end of Lake Merritt in front of the historic Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center. The rally begins at approximately 12:15pm.

The rally site has limited capacity and access will be closed when capacity is reached. A remote viewing area is available at Lake Merritt Blvd. & E. 12th St.

Port-a-potties will be scattered throughout the rally site and at the remote viewing area. Viewing access at the rally site will be available to those in need of mobility service at 11th Street and Lake Merritt Blvd. Medical assistance centers at the rally site will be identified by giant red balloons floating above the tents. Beverage stations are also scattered throughout the rally site.

Transit Information
Public transit will be the easiest way to reach the Parade and Rally. BART and AC Transit are gearing up to accommodate large crowds. Please be patient as transit will be slowed by traffic congestion and heavy pedestrian traffic.

10 Tips for Riding BART to the Victory Celebration in Oakland:
  1. Be patient, it’s going to get crowded; our busiest hours in 2015 were 8am-10am
  2. Use 19th Street Station, avoid the much smaller Lake Merritt Station
  3. Buy a Clipper card (clipper.com) in advance to avoid extremely long lines at ticket machines
  4. Look for tables with cash only $15 Clipper card sales at 10 of our busiest stations
  5. Parking will be packed; think about taking the bus or walking to BART or getting dropped off
  6. “Permit” spaces in parking lots are for permit holders only, a citation will ruin the fun day
  7. When boarding trains, move to the center of the car so more can fit, remove backpacks
  8. Don’t jam a train door- it will take the whole train out of service and everyone will boo you
  9. Some trains may not stop at Lake Merritt if the Rally Zone has reached capacity or crowding
  10. Our service will not match the publish schedule so listen and pay attention

Check www.bart.gov for updates.

AC Transit Reroutes Buses Downtown
AC Transit buses will be rerouted around downtown Oakland for most of the day due to street closures in the parade and rally area. As road closures begin to affect bus service, AC Transit ambassadors will be deployed throughout downtown Oakland and Lake Merritt to help guide residents and visitors to appropriate bus stop locations. Additionally, AC Transit ambassadors will be distributing flyers with critical information regarding temporary reroutes and the affected bus lines.

Lines 1, 6, 12, 14, 18, 19, 20, 29, 33, 40, 51A, 62, 72, 72M, 72R, 88, 96, NL, Broadway Shuttle and All Nighter lines 801 and 840 will be detoured. Detours of these bus lines will occur in three phases and begin the night before the parade.
Visit www.actransit.org to learn more about reroutes and additional service information.

Temporary Transit Center at Castro Street
Since many AC Transit bus lines start, transfer or end service in downtown Oakland, we have installed a Temporary Transit Center at Castro Street between 12th and 17th Streets. Downtown Oakland riders requiring transportation to the Castro Temporary Transit Center should look for the green Broadway Shuttle Buses. This service is free and will transport riders from the Castro Street Temporary Transit Center along 14th Street, Clay Street and 12th Street. The Shuttle will serve the stop at 12th and Clay Streets. For a map showing specific locations for lines, please visit www.actransit.org.
