TRAFFIC ADVISORY- SEPT. 15-18- LIRR MAIN LINE - STRAIGHT PATH GRADE CROSSING AND DOUBLE TRACK WORK

During the weekend of September 15 through 17, The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will be performing track renewal work on the Main Line at Straight Path in Wyandanch StationThis work is being performed as part of the LIRR Main Line Double Track Project between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. The Double Track Project will improve service and reliability on the LIRR’s Ronkonkoma Branch, spur economic activity, provide hundreds of construction jobs and improve LIRR service to Long Island MacArthur Airport.  It will reduce delays on the LIRR and enable more off peak service in both directions.  Construction will include:
 
Straight Path in Wyandanch

  • LIRR will be relocating signal equipment at Straight Path on Saturday, September 16th. During this time, periodic single lane closures may be implemented while equipment is moved. The relocation should be complete by 4PM. LIRR crews will continue to test the signal equipment at these two crossings through Sunday, September 17th, during which time the crossing gates may be activated sporadically.
  • Work will take place from Saturday, September 16, 7:00 a.m. through Sunday, September 17, 10:00 p.m. 
  • No traffic detours will be required for this effort.
Track Work
  • Work will take place from Friday, September 15, 11:59 p.m. through Monday, September 18, 4:00 a.m., primarily during daytime hours.
  • Temporary switch installation work will be done between Carl’s Path Road and Commack Road in Deer Park. (100 feet east of Carl’s Path).
  • Track department will be delivering new rail for second track along the ROW from Farmingdale to Wyandanch Station.
Alternate Travel
  • During the weekend train service will be suspended and busing will be provided from Farmingdale through Ronkonkoma.
