Fish Fire Impact Area Evening Update
 Impact Area at Red Alert Level:
Evacuation Site Open at Duarte Community Center & Street Closures in Affect
 
The City of Duarte’s Fish Fire Impact Area is now at the Red Alert level triggering mandatory evacuations of 180 homes. Heaviest rainfall is expected to begin January 9th between 2 am and 11 am with lingering showers throughout the remainder of the day.  Between 2 to 7 inches in total rainfall is expected. Street closures are now in placed (see list below) and LASD personnel are stationed at the seven checkpoints checking identification. Los Angeles County Fire and Public Works Departments also have additional staffing patrolling the area. Duarte Transit Service will continue to be suspended in the Impact area until further notice. The Duarte Community Center is open as an official Red Cross Evacuation Site for displaced residents and meals are provided.  Valley View Elementary school located at 237 Mel Canyon Rd. will be closed on Tuesday, January 9th.  City Hall phones at 626 357-7931 are open round the clock thru 6:00 pm, January 9th.  The City of Duarte’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will remain open and operational through any necessary clean up efforts.
 
Street closures are at the following areas: Royal Oaks and Greenbank, Bettyhill and Conata, Royal Oaks and Mel Canyon, eastbound Fish Canyon at Mel Canyon, westbound Fish Canyon at Mel Canyon, Mountaincrest and Deerlane, and Brookridge and Tannencrest.  Please note, residents under mandatory evacuation orders will not be allowed back into their homes until the orders are officially lifted by Duarte Public Safety officials.
 
Look for additional information in the early hours of Tuesday, January 9th after City staff has evaluated the situation and if necessary, commenced clean-up. Instructions:

RED LEVEL

 Mandatory evacuation order in effect. All residents ordered to leave the impacted and/or potentially impacted areas.

 Residents directed to remove vehicles, trash bins, and other obstructions from the streets and/or travel lanes prior to evacuating, as they will be subject to tow or removal by authorities.

 Residents will be directed to an Evacuation Center at the Duarte City Hall Community Center located at 1600 Huntington Drive, Duarte CA 91010

 Residents electing not to evacuate will be required to sign a Refusal to Evacuate Form, acknowledging their awareness of the hazards/risks and assuming all liability for the decision to remain and shelter in place. If you leave the area, you will not be allowed to return.

 Entry into the area shall be prohibited to all persons except public safety, first responders.

 Residents will not be allowed to return to their homes so long as the “Red Level” protocol remains in effect.

If you feel conditions are unsafe to evacuate, move to the highest safe place in your residence and shelter in place.
