Two arrested in stolen car in Glen Ellen.

Two suspects were arrested yesterday after the possibly armed driver fled from a stolen car in Glen Ellen. At about 6:00 AM yesterday, a victim living in the City of Sonoma reported that his vehicle, a blue 2004 Land Rover had been stolen over the previous night from his driveway. He suspected he might have left a door unlocked with a spare key inside.

The victim posted his story on social media, which was shared around the valley and shortly after 5:00 PM a citizen who had seen the posting, spotted the car on Marty Drive near Madrone Rd in Glen Ellen. The citizen called Sheriff’s Dispatch and, as deputies arrived on scene, they saw the suspect, later identified as Zachary Stovall, a 23-year-old Clearlake man driving the stolen car. Stovall fled at a high rate of speed and drove into The Grove Apartments at Madrone and Arnold.

As the car was still rolling, Stovall jumped out of the driver seat and fled as the car rolled into a tree causing minor damage. The initial deputy took the passenger into custody after the car hit the tree. She was identified as Kera Anderson, 24 from Sonoma. Responding deputies formed a perimeter and called for the Sheriff’s helicopter and canine teams to assist in the ground search.

The original deputy searched the stolen car and found .9 mm ammunition along with a .9 mm magazine which holds bullets for a semi-automatic handgun. Believing that suspect was armed, a public alert was sent for area residents to shelter in place. Alert residents  noticed the suspect jumping fences in the immediate area and notified deputies. At about 7:30 PM Stovall was located and arrested without incident in a backyard in the 15400 block of Thomas St. A search for the outstanding handgun was completed but one was never found.

Stovall was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of vehicle theft, possession of stolen vehicle, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting arrest. He is being held without bail as he is on county parole out of Lake County for a burglary conviction.

Anderson was ultimately booked into the Sonoma County Jail and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia as she had two methamphetamine smoking pipes in her back pack. She is being held on $30,000 bail.
