Lancaster Station Traffic Investigators are investigating the circumstances of a fatal traffic collision at the intersection of Avenue K, east of Standridge Avenue, in the city of Lancaster, on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at approximately 6:00 a.m.
Preliminary information gathered at the scene indicates a male adult victim was riding his bicycle west bound on Avenue K, in the bicycle lane. The vehicle, being driven by a male adult, was also traveling west bound on Avenue K.
For an unknown reason, the vehicle, swerved to the right and crossed into the bicycle lane. The vehicle then hit the bicyclist from behind with the front end of the vehicle. The bicyclist was subsequently launched forward and sustained serious injuries. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he passed away from his injuries.
At this time, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not a factor in the collision.
The vehicle’s speed is being investigated and there is no further information at this time.
