The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is holding a “Coffee with a Cop” event on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Starbucks located at the Camino Real Marketplace at 7030 Marketplace Drive in the City of Goleta. We hope you will join us for this opportunity to get to know some of the deputies who patrol the Goleta Valley area and who help keep this beautiful community safe.

The new Chief of Police Services for the City of Goleta, Lt. Brian Thielst, will be in attendance and is looking forward to meeting with as many community members as possible. He said, “I grew up in Goleta and am honored to be serving as the new Goleta station Lieutenant. I hope to meet with residents so that we can continue to build a solid team that will work together and keep the community safe.” Lt. Thielst is a 32-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office and graduated from Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta.

Camino Real Marketplace Starbucks Supervisor Lindsay Navarro is looking forward to the event and hopes people will take time out of their busy schedules to come by and say hello. She said, “We strive to be a third place for people to come to in addition to their homes and school or work place. We hope this event will offer a welcome opportunity for local law enforcement and the community to come together and connect on local issues.”

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative that aims to advance the practice of community policing by opening communication and fostering a greater understanding between citizens and police. The idea is to provide residents with an informal setting to meet deputies that work in their neighborhoods and talk about their concerns. The goal is break down barriers, build lasting relationships and familiarize the public with people who are there to protect and serve them.
The Sheriff’s Office has been holding “Coffee with a Cop” events at various locations in the county since 2013.
