Cases of Community Interest

Here are some cases over the past few days that may be of interest.
 
Street Robberies
On November 8th at 5:33 pm, a woman was walking across the intersection of Tremont Avenue and Woolsey Street when a suspect came from behind her and tried to grab her bag from her shoulder.  As the woman struggled to hold onto her bag, the suspect continued to pull away—dragging her several feet.  Unable to pull the bag away, the suspect gave up and fled—last seen running south on Tremont Street.  During the incident, the woman received some minor injuries to her legs from being dragged.

On November 8th at 10:15 pm, two people were sitting in their vehicle parked in the Marina.  While parked along Seawall Drive, a vehicle pulled up and four suspects got out, opened their vehicle’s doors, and took their cell phones and other items.  After throwing their vehicle’s keys in the water, the suspects got back in their vehicle and drove off.

On November 8th at 10:34 pm, a man was standing on Ashby Avenue (just west of MLK Jr Way) using his cell phone when a suspect walked in front of him and grabbed his cell phone from his hands and ran off—east on Ashby Avenue.  The man chased after the suspect, but stopped when the man thought he was reaching into his pockets for a weapon.  Officers responded to the area and located the suspect seated inside a stopped Richmond-bound BART train at the Ashby BART station.  The suspect (Deaonte Deshawn Edward Brown-Swan, Male, 25 years old, Homeless) was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

On November 9th at 2:35 pm, a woman was on the corner of University Avenue and San Pablo Avenue when a suspect tried to grab her bag and the jacket she was holding from her shoulder. When officers responded to the area, they located the suspect (Kaidi Clutchette, Male, 39, Oakland, CA) nearby and arrested him for suspicion of robbery and violation of probation.

Armed Robberies
On November 9th at 6:19 pm, a suspect entered Ici Ice Cream (2079 University Avenue) with his face covered.  Holding a handgun, the suspect demanded the cash from the cash register.  The suspect then left the store after taking cash.

On November 10th at 10:50 pm, a man was standing on his porch on the 1500 block of Channing Way.  While using his cell phone, two suspects approached the man wearing costume masks—one of them pointed a gun at him and demanded his cell phone.  After grabbing the phone from the man’s hands, the suspects ran away.

Auto Burglar armed with a knife
On November 13th at 10:30 pm, a man witnessed a suspect breaking into a vehicle in a parking lot on the 2300 block of Bancroft Way.  When the witness walked over to confront the suspect about burglarizing the vehicle, the suspect pulled out a knife and pointed it at him.  The suspect then ran away towards Durant Avenue.

DUI Arrest after Collision
On November 12th at 2 am, officers responded to a traffic collision where a vehicle collided with two parked vehicles on the 2100 block of Bonar Street.  A records check of the driver revealed that she was uninsured, did not have a valid license, and had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.  After officers evaluated her sobriety with a series of field sobriety tests, they determined that she was also under the influence.  Inside the vehicle, officers also discovered a quantity of methamphetamine.
 
The driver (Yolanda Micaela Florez, Female, 40 years old, Berkeley, CA) was arrested for her outstanding warrant, suspicion of felony DUI, possession of controlled substances, and cited for being an unlicensed/uninsured driver.

Car Stops lead to Felony Drug Arrests
On November 10th at 9:20 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation near the intersection of Market Street and Adeline Street.  Inside the vehicle, officers discovered a quantity of methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, and cash.  When officers attempted to handcuff the driver, the driver ran away—but was captured after a short foot chase.  After arresting both the driver and passenger, they were both transported to BPD Jail where officers discovered during the booking process that the passenger had additional Heroin hidden in their clothing.
 
The driver (Trey Dimaria Bailey, Male, 26 years old, Oakland, CA) and passenger (Jonika Laquisha Reed, Female, 27 years old, Berkeley, CA) were arrested on multiple counts of felony possession of Narcotics for Sale and transporting Narcotics for Sale.

On November 10th at 10:32 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation in the area of Haskell Street and Mabel Street.  When officers searched the driver, they discovered a quantity of marijuana, powder cocaine, rock cocaine, and over $1000 cash in his pockets.
 
The driver (Lecester King, Male, 56 years old, Oakland, CA) was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of Narcotics for Sale and transporting Narcotics for Sale.

Residential Burglar Arrested
On November 14th at 2:48 am, a resident of the 1000 block of Pardee Street awoke to the sound of someone inside her house.  When she got up to investigate, she saw a man walking down her staircase and she called the police.  After the suspect left, the resident walked through her house and saw that it had been burglarized—including the key fob to her vehicle.  Officers soon learned that the resident’s vehicle was stolen as well after the burglary and began searching for it.
 
Near the intersection of Channing Way and Ninth Street, officers located the suspect as he was exiting the vehicle.  The suspect (Anthony William Graham, Male, 42 years old, Homeless) was arrested on suspicion of burglary, vehicle theft and violation of probation.
