Sonoma High School Student Arrested for Disseminating Threats of School Shooting

On 02/27/19, at approximately 1245 hours, Sonoma High School staff began receiving information from concerned students and parents about a planned school shooting that was to occur on Friday, March 1, 2019.
 
This threat was illustrated in a Snapchat post that was disseminated to a few students which in turn brought it to the attention of school staff. Sonoma High School staff immediately reported the finding to the on-site School Resource Deputy who began investigating the incident.
 
Based on the information obtained through several interviews, the suspect who disseminated the Snapchat post was identified. The suspect, a Sonoma High School student was contacted at the school and was found to be responsible for creating the threatening social media post. The juvenile suspect was arrested on the charges of Criminal Threats and False Report of Emergency. The suspect was booked into custody at Juvenile Hall.
 
The Sonoma Police Department and Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office take these incidents seriously in order to ensure the safety of our schools and our community.
