Lancaster Sheriff's Station presents Personal Watch, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department information guide on personal safety tips.
When you are in your home:
1. Never open the door without knowing the person's identity. Don't be afraid to ask for some ID.
2. Before entering your home, have your keys ready before you reach the door.
3. If you suspect someone is in your home, DO NOT GO IN. Get to a phone and dial 9-1-1.
4. Install good locks on all doors and windows. Never hide keys outside.
5. Do not let callers know you are home alone. Use "we" instead of "I".
