Advisory

Please join us at USCB Center for the Arts on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, for an opioid abuse/overdose awareness event

On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. the University of South Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts will host an opioid abuse and overdose awareness event organized by the Beaufort County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Department. In the first few months of 2019, Beaufort County has seen an increase in opioid overdoses and, through community awareness, we hope to reduce this alarming trend.

Please join us at the USCB Center for the Arts, 805 Carteret Street, in Beaufort to help promote awareness of opioid abuse and overdoses in our community. Event speakers will include: Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner; Sara Goldsby, director of the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services; and members of the community, who have been directly affected by opioid abuse and overdoses.

In the interest of keeping potentially dangerous drugs out of circulation, representatives from the Sheriff's Office will have a "Take Back the Meds" table set up to collect unused and expired prescription medications. The "Take Back the Meds" table will be set up from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., just outside of  the Center for the Arts. No sharps will be accepted. In addition, information about treatment, mental health and support groups will be available at the event.

For more information call Katie Godowns from the Beaufort County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Department at 843-255-6003. Please come out and support this event. Thank you for your partnership and continued commitment to the safety of our community.
