Santa Maria Police Explorers compete against 48 teams at the CHP State Capitol Explorer Challenge 
April 25-28 2019, the Santa Maria Police Explorers participated in the California Highway Patrol State Capitol Explorer Challenge in Sacramento, California.
Santa Maria Police Explorers Frankie Lemus, Narellah Carrasco, Randy Gonzalez, Lorenzo Morelos, Yerlin Heredia, Kevin Pulido, Edgar Garcia, Junior Nogalez and Raul Chavez participated in multiple law enforcement scenarios including; High Risk Vehicle Stop, Family Disturbance, Obstacle Course, Officer Ambush, Active Shooter, DUI investigation, Crime Scene Investigation, Court Room Testimony, Traffic Stop, Vehicle Search and Suspicious Person.
The CHP explorer challenge included 50 teams and over 368 law enforcement explorers from various Law Enforcement agencies from Northern California and Southern California.
While in Sacramento the Santa Maria Police Explorers visited the State Capitol and the Police Officer Memorial.
The Santa Maria Police Council sponsors the Santa Maria Police Explorer Program and generously provided financial support for the explorers to attend this event.
