Twelve San Francisco East Bay Area Animal Shelters to team up to  “Empty the Shelters” on May 4, 2019

All Alameda and Contra Costa County animal shelters join forces for adopt-a-thon

Fremont, Calif. – May 2, 2019 – This weekend, all animal shelters in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties will participate in the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Clear the Shelters.

On Saturday, May 4 2019, all adoption fees for cats, kittens, dogs and puppies with be a flat $25 in hopes of matching all pets with new loving homes.

This effort is a part of a national push by over 100 shelters in 20 states, which will add to the over 19,000 animals already adopted as part of other Empty the Shelters events. By participating in the event as a coalition, the Bay Area will be a premier location for adopters looking to find a pet to join their families.

“Shelters are more crowded than ever, andwe have to help them,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Empty the Shelters brings awareness for adoption and makes people consider bringing a pet into their home, whether it’s their first pet or an addition to their pack. It’s been an extremely successful program to save lives and we hope this event will help thousands of pets get the second chance they deserve.”

Participating shelters include: Berkeley Humane, Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, East Bay SPCA, East County Animal Shelter, Contra Costa County Animal Services, Antioch Animal Services, Berkeley Animal Care Services, Valley Animal Center, Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation, Tri-City Animal Shelter, Oakland Animal Services, and Hayward Animal Shelter.

Tri-City Animal Shelter is open 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Please contact each shelter directly for open hours and adoption requirements.
