A major injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian occurred on Thornton Ave Sunday night.

On May 12, 2019 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Fremont Patrol Officers were dispatched to the report of a major injury traffic collision on Thornton Ave, near the northbound I880 entrance, involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The caller stated that the driver of the vehicle had initially tried to drive away, but had been blocked-in by a witness. It was clarified shortly thereafter that the driver wasn’t aware he had struck a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they located a female pedestrian who appeared to be in her late teens to early 20’s, lying in the intersection of Thornton Ave and San Pedro Dr. The woman was breathing, but unconscious. She was transported to a regional trauma center where she is receiving treatment for several injuries including head trauma. At the time of transportation, her identity was unknown. The driver, a 68 year old man (Fremont resident), stopped a short distance away and was cooperative with investigators. His vehicle, a 1997 Toyota Camry, was towed as evidence.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
