INCIDENT: Operation Broken Heart

LOCATION: High Desert - Adelanto, Apple Valley, Lucerne Valley, Phelan, Pinon Hills, Helendale, Hesperia, & Victorville

SUMMARY:
On Saturday, May 11, 2019, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, and an affiliate of the Los Angeles Crimes Against Children Task Force (LAICAC), participated in Operation Broken Heart. Operation Broken Heart is held in conjunction with the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Office and Delinquency Program (OJJDP) and all 61 of the nation’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces. Operation Broken Heart takes place in the months of April and May, which targets those that exploit children.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies, California State Parole officers and San Bernardino County Probation officers conducted several compliance checks in the cities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Lucerne Valley, Phelan, Pinon Hills, Helendale, Hesperia and Victorville. The sex offender compliance operation included verifying the home addresses of each registered sex offender. The operation involved 20 deputies, three parole agents and nine probation officers who conducted a total of 350 compliance checks of registered sex offenders.

As a result of the multi-agency participation in Operation Broken Heart, it was found that two sex registrants were deceased, one was in custody and 11 have moved from their last registered address. A total of five were arrested. One arrest was a felon in possession of ammunition. A second arrest was a felon in possession of ammunition and a stolen gun. The last three arrests were for felony warrants.
