Community working together swiftly prevents repeat criminal from terrorizing their neighborhood

The SWIFT actions by two residents, Cobb County 911 call takers, dispatchers and Marietta Police Officers led to the prevention of crime by a local resident with a long history of crimes within our city. Here is a quick timeline of the events that occurred early Thursday morning, May 16th:

  • 12:52 AM, a local resident hears a car alarm going off and receives an alert from their Ring camera. They review their Ring video and discover it captured a person flipping door handles and attempting to enter vehicles.  The resident calls Cobb County 911 to report the suspicious activity, providing the call taker with a description of the suspect as well as the direction he left on foot a few minutes before they called.
  • 12:54 AM Officers arrive in the area and begin searching for the suspect.
  • 1:00 AM Officers locate the suspect and inform 911 dispatchers that the suspect is running between yards and climbing over fences.
  • 1:01 AM Officers set up a perimeter and continue their search.
  • 1:02 AM Officers can no longer hear the suspect moving in the dark and continue their search.
  • 1:08 AM Cobb County 911 received another call, this time from a woman stating someone appeared to be trying to hide on their back porch.
  • 1:09 AM The new call (updated information) was dispatched.
  • 1:10 AM Officers confronted the suspicious person and a struggle ensued.
  • 1:12 AM the suspect was detained.
During the struggle, officer Salyers was struck in the face and briefly knocked unconscious.  Salyers was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and later released.  He is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect, twenty-seven-year-old Jordoan Myles has had (43) forty-three different contacts with our Department, including (12) arrests.  Myles was booked into Cobb Adult Detention Center on Warrant # 19-W-5146, facing charges: Obstruction / Hindering Law Enforcement (M) and Loitering / Prowling (M).

We could not be prouder of everyone involved, from residents, to 911 dispatchers to the officers who responded.  Working together we were able to prevent additional crimes from occurring and ensure the public’s safety.

The resident who called 911 to inform us the suspect was hiding on their porch, Mr. Steve Morrow, stated:
“I know it is a cliché, but I saw firsthand, the officers rushed into a situation not knowing whether the suspect had a weapon or not and saved my wife and I from a life changing event.”
“these officers risked their lives for me and my wife.”
