Man Arrested for Burglary and DWAI/Drugs

Suffolk County Police last night arrested a man for burglary, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in Freeport.
 
Fifth Squad detectives were investigating a burglary at Lucky Lotto, located at 1104 Smithtown Ave. in Bohemia that occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m. A white Mercedes Benz Sprinter van was observed fleeing the scene on surveillance video.
 
A vehicle matching the description was observed in the parking lot of 7-Eleven, located on Waverly Ave. in Patchogue at approximately 10:50 p.m. A patrol officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle fled northbound on Patchogue Holbrook Road, then west on Sunrise Highway, then north on Fifth Avenue. Suffolk County Police Aviation Section helicopters, along with New York State Police, Nassau County Police, and Freeport Police tracked the vehicle as it fled onto Southern State Parkway, south on Wantagh Parkway, and west onto Merrick Road, before being cornered by police vehicles at a construction site on South Main Street in Freeport where the driver and passenger were arrested.
 
The driver, John Miller, 43, of Brookhaven, was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree. The passenger, Annette Bowers, 45, of Patchogue, was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. Additional charges are pending. They are being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 21.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
