89% of WI motorists regularly buckle up-if you are not one of them, please join them.

Now through Memorial Day weekend, police officers across the State of Wisconsin are stepping up seat belt enforcement.  Click It or Ticket is an awareness campaign surrounding the importance of wearing your seatbelt while driving.  89% of Wisconsin motorists regularly buckle up – if you are not one of them, please join them.  Think about this: the 10% of motorists who fail to buckle up account for nearly half the drivers and passengers killed in Wisconsin traffic crashes each year.  Simply buckling up greatly reduces the risk of serious injury and death.

The Sheboygan Police Department has made a significant effort over the past year and a half on educating the public reference safe driving tips in order to avoid accidents.  In fact, for 2019 thus far, accidents have decreased by approximately 5% compared to 2018.  But, accidents do happen; so safeguarding oneself by wearing a seatbelt is of utmost importance.  Traffic crashes still are one of the leading causes of death for teens and young adults nationwide.  Let’s encourage all to wear their seatbelts so our community does not suffer any needless traffic-related deaths due to not wearing a seatbelt.
