Investigators with the Crimes Against Children Detail arrest a 25-year-old woman for Willful Cruelty to a Child

LOCATION: City of Rancho Cucamonga
VICTIM: 16-month-old female
SUSPECT: Marquel Velasquez, 25 years old, resident of Rancho Cucamonga
SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, May 22, 2019, Velasquez took the victim to Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) for an X-ray exam. During the medical examination at LLUMC, forensic pediatricians found numerous other injuries to the victim, many of them in different stages of healing. All of the victim’s injuries were consistent with suspected child abuse. The victim is currently hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit.
Investigators determined the 16-month-old victim resides in Rancho Cucamonga with Marquel Velasquez.
Following an extensive investigation and collaboration with the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station and Forensic Pediatricians from LLUMC, Velasquez was arrested on Friday, May 24, 2019. She was booked at Central Detention Center for Willful Cruelty to a Child and bail was set at $100,000.
