Deputies arrest a Yucaipa man for failing to register as a sex offender

INCIDENT: Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
Possession for Sales of Methamphetamine
LOCATION: 12500 block of 16th St, Yucaipa
SUSPECT: Derrick Barner, age 36 a resident of Yucaipa
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, July 17th, at 1:22 a.m., deputies from the Yucaipa Station received a call of a possible vehicle burglary in progress in the 12500 block of 16th Street. A deputy arrived in the area within about two minutes of receiving the call and located an associated vehicle described by the caller.
Inside the vehicle, deputies contacted Derrick Barner. A records check revealed Barner was required to register as a sex offender and was out of compliance with those requirements. He was taken into custody without incident. In his possession, deputies located suspected methamphetamine and indicia of drug sales.
Barner was booked into Central Detention Center and is being held of $50,000 bail.
During their investigation, deputies were unable to locate any victims of vehicle burglaries and it's unknown if Barner was actually involved in any such crimes.
