SUMMARY:
An alert citizen saw and reported a suspicious male slouched down in a vehicle in the 35000 block of Rebecca Road. The citizen reported the vehicle had been parked in the area for over 30 minutes. Similar reports began to surface on community social media pages that included photographs of the suspicious vehicle.
Deputies located the vehicle and contacted Alfredo Gonzalez, who was found to be on probation for a stolen vehicle conviction. Investigation revealed the car Gonzalez was in was stolen and he was detained without incident. Inside the vehicle, deputies located stolen mail, wallets, a purse and packages with addresses from the surrounding area.
These items provided addresses for three potential victims on San Carlos Street, and others on Pamela Court, Rachel Road and San Juan Ave. Several victims were located and confirmed their vehicles were burglarized during the night. Efforts to locate more victims are ongoing.
Property belonging to a resident of Calimesa was also located inside the car. Calimesa Police confirmed additional vehicle burglaries and mail theft, apparently linked to Gonzalez, occurred in Riverside County.
During this investigation, deputies responded to reports of tagging in the areas of San Leandro, San Juan St and San Carlos St. Evidence located inside the car, and on Gonzalez, linked him to the tagging.
Gonzalez was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges with bail set at $100,000.
At the time of the crime, Gonzalez was wearing blue jeans and a gray hooded sweater. He was driving a stolen black Honda Accord with a primered front fender. Deputies believe he was accompanied by one or two others during some of these crimes. Photographs are being released of Gonzalez, the stolen vehicle and the clothing he was wearing at the time of his arrest. We are asking members of the public who live in the areas described to review their video surveillance from about 11:00 PM on July 17 until about 8:00 AM on July 18.
