Detectives investigated an attempted carjacking/assault & identified the 2 suspects involved who were later arrested

DATE/TIME: July 19, 2019 / 5:00 P.M.

INCIDENT: Attempted Carjacking and Assault causing Significant Injury

LOCATION: 22000 block of DeBerry Street, Grand Terrace

SUSPECTS: Ronald Moss, 28-year-old, resident of Riverside
Rayshaun Pierson, 19-year-old, resident of Riverside


VICTIM: Confidential, 39-year-old male victim


SUMMARY: On April 26, 2019, at approximately 12:45 p.m., detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department - Central Station investigated an attempted carjacking and assault on the 22000 block of DeBerry Street, in the city of Grand Terrace. The victim, a 39-year-old Lyft driver, was seated in the driver's seat of his parked vehicle on DeBerry Street. Ronald Moss and Rayshaun Pierson stopped and exited their vehicle, near the victim. Moss and Pierson were not known to the victim. Pierson removed the victim from his vehicle, demanded his keys, and assaulted him by hitting him repeatedly with a firearm. Moss punched the victim several times. Moss and Pierson were unsuccessful in stealing the victim's vehicle and left in their vehicle. The victim sustained serious injuries and was temporarily hospitalized. Investigators interviewed several witnesses and developed leads, which led to the identification of Moss and Pierson. Arrest warrants were issued for Moss and Pierson.

On July 17, 2019, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Specialized Enforcement Division arrested Moss and Pierson at their homes in the city of Riverside. Moss was booked at the Central Detention Center and charged with PC 664/215(A) - Attempted Carjacking. Pierson was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and charged with PC 664/215(A) - Attempted Carjacking and PC 12022.53(B) - Use of a Firearm. Bail was set at $250,000.00.
