A hitchhiker stole the victims car in Palm Springs and was located and arrested in Yucaipa

LOCATION: Avenue E / Yucaipa Blvd, Yucaipa
SUSPECT: Rosalia Rios, 36 years old, transient
VICTIM: 61-year-old male, resident of Desert Hot Springs
SUMMARY:
On August 7, 2019 deputies assigned to the Yucaipa Police Department were alerted by an Automated License Plate Reader hit (ALPR) of a stolen Honda Civic entering the city. Within approximately three minutes of receiving the call, deputies located the vehicle being driven on Avenue E near 9th St. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and took the driver, Rosalia Rios, into custody without incident.
Investigation revealed the victim picked up Rios as she hitchhiked in the Palm Springs area. He stopped at an area business and went inside, at which time Rios stole his car. The vehicle was recovered undamaged and will be returned to the victim.
Rios was booked at Central Detention Center with bail set at $25,000.
