Advisory

Package at Bow Circle, Hilton Head Post Office cleared by Sheriff's Office Bomb Team. Contents not suspicious.

A male resident of Hilton Head Island was delivered a package recently, which he felt was suspicious. Late this morning, the man brought the package to the United States Post Office located at 10 Bow Circle and, after advising Post Office employees that he suspected it may contain a bomb, left the package inside the building. Post Office employees took the package outside to the parking lot and notified the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office Explosive Ordinance Unit/Bomb Team responded and examined the package. The package was deemed safe and, after the package was opened, rare coins were identified as its contents. Whether the coins were mailed to the man in error or whether he ordered them is being looked into.

Thank you for your continued attention to public safety advisories from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
