Yucaipa Deputies Uncover Identity Theft Operation - Suspects Found with Personal Information of nearly 100 people.

DATE/TIME: 08/11/2019 / 11:40 a.m.

INCIDENT: Identity Theft, Credit Card Fraud and addition Narcotics Charges

LOCATION: 12200 block of 2nd Street, Yucaipa, CA 92399

SUSPECT(S): Sharilynn Castle, 34-year-old resident of Yucaipa
William Santosalvo, 33-year-old resident of Yucaipa

VICTIM(S): Numerous residents of Yucaipa and surrounding areas

SUMMARY: On July 28, 2019, a victim reported his personal information was being fraudulently used after his mailbox was broken into. During his investigation, Deputy Bremer identified Sharilynn Castle, another Yucaipa resident as the suspect. Deputies obtained a search warrant for Castle's residence.

On Sunday, August 11, 2019, deputies from the Yucaipa Station, assisted by a sheriff's helicopter, served a search warrant at the suspect's residence. William Santosalvo ran out of the residence and attempted to escape but was quickly captured and taken into custody. Evidence of fraud and stolen items from thefts in the Yucaipa area were recovered from the residence. Personal information from victims in surrounding cities and counties were also found in Castle's possession. An initial assessment revealed the suspects were in possession of personal identifying information of approximately 100 other potential victims. Deputies and detectives are now engaged in the painstaking process of locating victims and helping them sort through the identity theft recovery process.

Both Castle and Santosalvo face multiple charges including drug charges, identify theft and credit card fraud charges. Castle, who was out on bail for an unrelated stolen property charge, was also booked for committing a new crime while out of bail. She is being held on $100,000 bail. Santosalvo was found to have a felony warrant on an unrelated vehicle theft charge and is being held without bail.

The Yucaipa Station would like to take this opportunity to educate residents in identity theft prevention. If you have mail delivered to your house: get a locking mailbox and collect your mail daily, monitor your credit and sign up for credit alerts which can notify you of changes to your credit report, and report suspicious people or vehicles seen checking mailboxes or following delivery trucks.
