INCIDENT: Possession of a Controlled Substance while Armed, Felon in Possession of Firearms, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sales

LOCATION: Kay Road & Morman Springs Road, Crestline

SUSPECTS: Daniel Garcia, a 36-year-old resident of Arizona and Juan Hurtado, a 21-year-old resident of Crestline

VICTIM(S): Confidential


SUMMARY: On Sunday, August 18, 2019, at approximately 5:30 PM, deputies from the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Multiple Enforcement Team (MET) initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the community of Crestline. Deputies contacted the driver, Daniel Garcia and the passenger, Juan Hurtado. During the investigation and subsequent arrests, Garcia and Hurtado were found to be in possession of a large amount of crystal methamphetamine, black tar heroin, dozens of hypodermic needles, dozens of brand new plastic baggies, four digital scales, several cell phones, cash in different denominations, approximately 250 rounds of live ammunition, an assault rifle, and a loaded handgun.

Garcia was arrested for possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance for sale, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and a convicted felon in possession of ammunition. Hurtado was arrested for possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and transportation of a controlled substance for sale. Daniel Garcia and Juan Hurtado were booked at Central Detention Center where they will be held on a $235,000 bail.
