Advisory

Three men charged in Wednesday's Sheppard Road, St. Helena Island armed robbery.

Just after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, a man reported that he was robbed by three male subjects on Sheppard Road, St. Helena Island, after returning to his vehicle, following a run. During the robbery, the man advised that—while he was being held at gunpoint—the subjects entered his vehicle and took a pistol, a rifle and a tactical bag. After they took the items from his vehicle, the man reported that the subjects took his cellphone and fled the area on foot.

Following the robbery on Wednesday night, Sheriff’s Office investigators were able to identify three persons of interest in the incident, who were all from St. Helena Island: 23-year old Dakari Ayise, 18-year-old Darius Ayise and 18_year-old Nichquan Evans. After learning the subjects' identities, investigators went to the 71 Holly Hall Road residence of Dakari and Darius Ayise to investigate further.

When investigators arrived at the Ayises’ residence Wednesday night, they made contact with Dakari Ayise and took him into custody, as it was determined he was wanted by probation/parole in Missouri. While inside the Ayises’ residence, investigators found the tactical bag reported stolen by the robbery victim. In a wooded area near the residence, investigators found the victim's cellphone. Following the recovery of the victim's tactical bag and cellphone, Dakari Ayise was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center and incarcerated on a Fugitive from Justice charge for the Missouri probation/parole warrant.

Yesterday, Sheriff’s Office investigators continued to look into the robbery incident and met with a Beaufort County magistrate to present the facts of the case. After reviewing the case, the magistrate issued warrants for the arrest of the three subjects—Dakari Ayise, Darius Ayise and Nichquan Evans—for Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during the commission of a Violent Crime.

This morning, Sheriff’s Office investigators and SWAT team members set out to locate and serve the arrest warrants on Darius Ayise and Nichquan Evans. When Sheriff’s Office personnel went to Nichquan Evans's residence—171 Ernest Drive, St. Helena Island—they learned that Evans and Darius Ayise were inside and were refusing to come out. After about two hours, and numerous attempts by Sheriff’s Office personnel to get the two to come out of the residence, Evans and Darius Ayise came out and surrendered peacefully.

Nichquan Evans and Darius Ayise were arrested on the warrants for Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime and interviewed by Sheriff’s Office investigators regarding the robbery. Following their interviews this afternoon, Evans and Darius Ayise were transported to the Detention Center and incarcerated. Also this afternoon, Dakari Ayise—who has been held at the Detention Center on the fugitive charge since Wednesday night—was served with the arrest warrants for Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime for his involvement in Wednesday's robbery.

As of the time of this advisory, Dakari Ayise, Darius Ayise and Nichquan Evans have yet to have bond hearings for their charges and remain incarcerated at the Detention Center.

The pistol and rifle taken from the victim's vehicle during Wednesday's robbery have not been recovered. Anyone with information on the location of the two stolen firearms is encouraged to contact Lance Corporal Robert Byrd 843-255-3429 or Crimestoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111 if wishing to remain anonymous and for possible reward.
