Two people arrested after robbery, fight, escape from custody in Agua Caliente

Two people are in custody, including the one who briefly escaped, and facing charges for a robbery and fight.  A third suspect is still outstanding.

On Sunday, August 25, at approximately 3:15 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of W. Agua Caliente Road in Agua Caliente for a report of a person with a gun.  Deputies learned a victim had arranged to sell marijuana to someone through Snapchat.  They met at an agreed-upon location in the 400 block of W. Agua Caliente Road.  The victim gave the marijuana to the suspect, later identified as Guillermo Hurtado, 18, Sonoma, and demanded payment. Two other people were with Hurtado.

Hurtado showed him a handgun tucked into his waistband and refused to pay.  A physical fight amongst all four people ensued and carried out into the street.  The victim was punched and kicked by multiple people and hit in the back of the head with a gun.  The fight ended and Hurtado drove away in a Toyota Prius.  The other two suspects ran away on foot, one of whom entered a house in the same block.  The victim was treated for his injuries by Sonoma Valley Fire. The victim identified a 16-year-old suspect, whose name will not be released because he is a minor, as the person who hit him with the gun.
The 16-year-old suspect is known by deputies and was on probation; his probation included a term that law enforcement could search his home.  Deputies went to the suspect’s home, located on the same block, and found him and three other people.  Deputies searched the residence because two suspects were outstanding, but nobody else was in the house. The 16-year-old suspect was placed in a patrol car and transported to the Valley substation for an interview.

Meanwhile, a deputy remembered recently contacting Hurtado and the 16-year-old suspect in a Toyota Prius.  Deputies found Hurtado driving the Prius, pulled him over, and arrested him.  He was also taken to the Valley substation for interviews.

After the 16-year-old suspect completed his interviews, a deputy walked him out to the patrol car inside the substation’s gated parking lot.  The suspect became argumentative when the deputy tried to place handcuffs on him, pulled away from his grasp, and jumped over the fence.  Deputies chased him in a patrol car, but lost sight of him.  Henry 1 and deputies on the ground searched the area.  A passerby told a deputy he saw the suspect walking eastbound on Solano Avenue.  Deputies determined the suspect was in a house in the 19000 block of Quigley Lane in El Verano.  Some deputies started searching the property while others talked to the homeowner.  Deputies found the 16-year-old suspect hiding under a bed in an RV.  He came out after being ordered out multiple times and was arrested.

Sonoma Valley Fire again responded for medical care because the suspect had skin torn away on his arm, which likely happened when he escaped.  He was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance.

Hurtado was booked into County jail without incident for felony robbery and conspiracy.  He remains in custody on $100,000 bail.  The 16-year-old suspect was booked at juvenile hall on charges of felony robbery, felony conspiracy, and two escape charges.

Violent Crimes Detectives are investigating this incident.  Anyone with information is asked to call Sheriff Investigations at 707-565-2185 and ask for Detective Horsman.
