Advisory

Lancaster Detectives remind online daters to never drive to a home location when meeting someone for the 1st time!

Picture this: You see someone you like on one of the popular dating websites. After exchanging a few texts messages, you finally have a chance to meet. You drive to the address they gave you, or possibly a street corner, to pick up your date. As your date gets in your car, they pull out a weapon and rob you of your cash, cell phone or maybe even your car. When the detective follows up on your case, they discover no one at that home knows who your date is, have never seen your date before and have no knowledge of them.

Unfortunately, this is a common scenario.

In today's fast paced world, online dating has become very popular. And while in some cases meeting someone on the internet may lead some of our residents to find love, in some cases in may be very dangerous.

Lancaster Sheriff's Station reminds our residents to use extra caution when meeting someone in person for the first time.
When setting up a date with someone you have "met" in an online dating site, our detectives suggest you do not pick them up at their supposed home location or on a street corner. Instead, detectives recommend to meet your date in a well lit, public place. Not only will your meeting be far safer, driving to a location on your own allows you to have a means of transportation should you decide to leave.

Use caution, tell a friend where you will be and never pick someone up from a residential location when meeting them for the first time. Stay safe and Happy Dating!
