A 28 year old Santa Rosa man, Jorden Cantor, was arrested on Saturday, December 14 after stealing a car and fighting a K-9.
The incident unfolded at approximately 5:15 pm, when a deputy found a stolen white Honda Civic parked near Vallejo Street and Corlano Avenue in Santa Rosa. The deputy saw Cantor driving the car. Cantor noticed the deputy and immediately turned onto Ashbury Street. The deputy turned on his emergency lights to stop the car. The car came to a quick stop and partially blocked the roadway.
Cantor quickly jumped out of the car and began walking away from the deputy. The deputy told Cantor to stop numerous times. Cantor saw the deputy behind him and took off running. The deputy pursued Cantor on foot. The deputy ordered his K-9 partner Scout, who was inside the patrol car, to catch Cantor. Cantor was approximately 20 yards away from the deputy. Scout caught up to Cantor and bit him on the leg. Cantor began assaulting Scout by pushing and slapping at his muzzle in an attempt to get away. Cantor was arrested and later transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries. The deputy and Scout were not injured.
The deputy searched inside the stolen car and found a shaved key, a tool used to steal cars, in the ignition. A shaved key looks like a car key that has been shaved down to fit into the ignition. This type of key makes stealing a car easy and is considered a burglary tool. The deputy further searched the area of the foot chase and found Cantor’s baseball hat and suspected heroin and methamphetamine.
Cantor was booked into the Sonoma County jail on felony and misdemeanor charges of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle theft with a prior conviction, assaulting a police dog, obstructing or resisting an officer, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, and a felony warrant. He is being held on a no bail warrant, which means he cannot post bail.
