INCIDENT: Death/Arson Investigation
LOCATION: 8600 block of Phelan Road, Phelan
VICTIM: Adult male, pending identification and notification of next of kin
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, December 21, 2019, at 2:17 a.m., a deputy from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station was on patrol in the area of Phelan Road between Zing Drive and Trinidad Road when he observed an outbuilding/shed on fire in the 8600 block of Phelan Road. Fire personnel responded to the location and extinguished the fire. The victim was located just outside the outbuilding and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Detectives from Bomb and Arson responded to the location to conduct the investigation. Through investigation, investigators determined that the victim was living in the outbuilding without the permission of the homeowner. The homeowners were not home when the fire occurred.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
