Franklin Lopez Alas of Los Angeles was arrested for Impersonating a Police Officer

DATE/TIME: Wednesday, December 25, 2019 / 9:10 p.m.

INCIDENT: PC 146, Impersonating a Police Officer

LOCATION: Base Line Rd./ I-15 Freeway, Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT: Franklin Lopez Alas, 23 years old, resident of Los Angeles

SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at about 9:10 p.m., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station responded to Baseline Road and the I-15 freeway, to assist an off duty El Monte Police Detective who conducted a traffic stop on a subject suspected of impersonating a police officer. Deputies Delone Yu and Edward Partida found the suspect, Franklin Lopez Alas was driving a maroon 2012, Mercedes Benz C250 with after-market strobing red and blue lights attached to the front grille of the vehicle.

Lopez, while driving on the I-210 east, drove up behind the detective, who was in an unmarked police vehicle. Alas activated the illegal lights to move the vehicle in front of him out of his way so he could pass. Once the detective moved out of the way, Alas passed him at a high rate speed. The detective followed and paced Alas at speeds of over 100 mph. The detective subsequently conducted a traffic stop on the Mercedes at Baseline Road and the I-15 freeway, where he called for assistance.

After conducting their investigation, deputies found Alas to have a suspended driver's license. Alas was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and his vehicle was impounded.
