INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Bear Valley Road West of Joshua Road, Town of Apple Valley

INVOLVED PARTY #1: 21-year-old female (name withheld pending notification of next of kin)

INVOLVED PARTY #2: 44-year-old male, resident of San Bernardino


SUMMARY: On January 12, 2020, at about 6:50 pm, deputies from the Apple Valley Station and emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department and American Medical Response ambulance responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision near the area of Bear Valley Road and Joshua Road. As a result of the collision, a 21 year old female was pronouced deseased. Investigators from the Apple Valley Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) were called and responded to assume the investigation.

Through preliminary investigation it was determined that a silver Honda Accord, driven by a 21-year-old female, was traveling east on Bear Valley Road west of Joshua Road. A red Dodge Ram truck pulling a flatbed trailer, driven by a 44-year-old male, was traveling west on Bear Valley Road west of Joshua Road. For unknown reasons, the Honda lost control and veered left into the westbound lane of Bear Valley Road directly into the path of the Dodge truck causing the vehicles to collide head-on.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles sustained major damage. The driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center with minor injuries.
