Derek Wells was arrested for Attempted Robbery after he threatened the victim with a knife and demanded money

LOCATION: 1200 Block of W. Broadway, Needles
SUSPECT: Derek Wells, 41 years old, Transient of Needles
SUMMARY:
On January 28, 2020, the victim was walking along West Broadway Street near J Street when he was confronted by a male subject, later identified as Derek Wells, that demanded he hand over his money. The victim ran away, but Wells followed him and again demanded money and threatening him with a knife. The victim ran to an open business and the clerk, seeing what just happened, let the victim in and immediately locked the door and notified law enforcement.
Deputies from the Needles Police/ San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department arrived on scene and obtained information to assist with locating the suspect. Within a couple minutes, deputies located Wells in the area. Wells was detained and positively identified by the victim. Additionally, evidence was located that linked Wells to the crime.
Wells was arrested for Attempted Robbery and booked into the Colorado River Station with bail set at $50,000.
