SUMMARY: On February 11, 2020, Deputy L. Phillip responded to a robbery call in the 14400 block of Bear Valley Road. The reporting party was approached by the 16-year-old male victim inside the mall. The victim told the reporting party he had been jumped and robbed in the mall parking lot.
The victim had been walking with a 15-year-old male (suspect 1), whom he knew from school, through the mall parking lot. Suspect 1 called suspect 2 and 3 and told them to come to the location. When they arrived, the suspects, one possibly armed with a gun, assaulted the victim and took his money, cell phone, and jewelry. The suspects fled, and the victim went inside the mall to seek help. Deputies conducted a search for the suspects, but they were not immediately located. Deputy Phillip continued the investigation and was able to identify the three suspects.
On the morning of February 12, 2020, Deputy Phillip and Deputy Collas located and detained suspect 1 and suspect 3. Shortly after 2:00 pm, Deputy Phillip saw a subject walking in the area of Seneca Road and El Evado Road. He recognized him as suspect 2 and stopped to talk to him. Suspect 2 was carrying a duffle bag with a firearm partially exposed. When Phillip approached him, the suspect ran. Additional deputies responded to assist in the foot pursuit. A bystander witnessed suspect 2 drop the duffle bag and firearm near Seneca Road and Hopi Drive. After approximately 10 minutes deputies located and detained suspect 2 near an apartment complex on Seneca Road. The firearm was located and collected as evidence.
All three suspects were arrested. Suspects 1 and 3 will be booked into High Desert Juvenile Detention Center for strong-arm robbery. Suspect 2 will be booked into High Desert Juvenile Detention Center for strong-arm robbery, evading a Peace Officer, and possession of a firearm.
During the pursuit of suspect 2, nearby West Palms Conservatory School was placed on lockdown, as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted after a short time and did not affect the normal dismissal of students.
