PRESS RELEASE: SUSPECTED TJ MAXX THIEVES ARRESTED

On February 12, 2020 at about 10:55am, Moraga PD officers responded to a shoplifting report that had just occurred at the TJ Maxx located in the Rheem Shopping Center.  The suspects were seen leaving the area in a vehicle, and a short time later Lafayette PD officers spotted the vehicle in Lafayette.

Lafayette PD officers stopped the car, which had been reported stolen, and detained the four occupants. Moraga PD officers arrived and continued to investigate the incident. Officers recovered the property that had been stolen from the TJ Maxx and the suspects were positively identified by witnesses as being involved in the theft.

The suspects (53-year-old Jimmy Swearengin, 55-year-old Major Mack, 32-year-old Shirley Johnson, and 44-year-old Tony Richard, all from Oakland) were arrested by Moraga PD officers and later booked at the Martinez County Jail for a variety of charges including Petty Theft and Conspiracy, Probation Violations, and Vehicle Theft.
