INCIDENT: Suicidal Subject
LOCATION: 1445 Los Angeles Ave.

On Thursday, February 20th, 2020, at approximately 5:04 PM, Simi Valley Police Officers were dispatched to 1445 Los Angeles Avenue in reference to a Suicidal Subject with a gun. The caller stated the subject was in a gold Toyota Corolla in the parking lot. The caller further stated the male subject had a gun and was making suicidal statements.

Upon arrival, Officers located the vehicle, which was occupied by the distraught subject. Officers immediately began giving the subject verbal commands to exit the vehicle with his hands up. The subject then exited the vehicle and tossed what appeared to be a handgun a short distance away. Officers continued giving verbal commands asking the suspect to lay down on the ground. The subject then walked back over to the gun and began kicking it towards the front doors of a nearby business.

Fearing this subject would grab the gun and enter the business, a less than lethal SAGE round was fired, striking the subject in the right leg. The subject was then taken into custody. The Officers retrieved the gun and determined it was an airsoft pistol.

The subject was a 38-year-old male Simi Valley resident. Based on all the information obtained, Officers determined the subject was having a mental health episode. This subject was placed on a 5150 WIC-Mental Health Hold.
