GBPD arrests suspect passing counterfeit money

Since January 1, 2020, the Green Bay Police Department has received 13 complaints of counterfeit money being passed at local businesses in Green Bay. We frequently see the “movie money” that says “for motions picture use only” or the counterfeit money with the foreign symbols on it from a different country. We have put out several public awareness messages via Facebook, with the last one on February 12, 2020 warning the community about this, in our ongoing effort to help business owners and residents from becoming a victim. We want to inform the community that officers have made an arrest.

On the 19th, at 11:43 PM Officers responded to a fast food restaurant on the east side of Green Bay for a male suspect that was attempting to purchase food with a counterfeit $100 bill. Due to the quick thinking of the staff in the drive thru, they knew the bill was counterfeit and were able to stall the driver long enough to contact the Green Bay Police Department and for officers to arrive.

As officers arrived on scene, they blocked the suspect vehicle in as it was parked in the drive thru. With the suspect not being able to dive away, officers ordered the male suspect out of the vehicle and he was taken into custody. The suspect is an 18 year old Green Bay resident. The suspect is not being identified until he is officially charged.

In the investigation, officers were also able to connect this suspect to another fraud investigation at another east side fast food restaurant earlier in the evening, as the suspect passed another counterfeit $100 bill. This suspect was transported to jail and he is charged with three counts of Theft/False Representation/Fraud.

The Green Bay Police Department stresses the importance of checking/validating any/all currency to prevent from being a victim of this crime.

If anyone has any information about these frauds they are encouraged to call the Green Bay Police Department at 920-448-3208. If you wish to remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward, contact the Green Bay Area Crime Stoppers by phone (920) 432-7867, through their website at www.432stop.com, or by downloading the P3 app through Google play or App store.
