Suspect charged after a series of paintball attacks

On February 9th and February 10th, the Berkeley Police Department responded to a series of six (6) “drive-by” style paintball assaults.  During these attacks, the suspect would drive by victims and shoot them with the paintballs.  During these incidents, twelve different people were struck and/or injured from the attacks—one of the victims receiving a substantial facial injury.

After some investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Daylon Davis (an 18-year-old Berkeley man).  A few days later, officers located the suspect’s vehicle parked on a street in South Berkeley.  Inside the trunk, officers located the suspected paintball gun used in the attacks.  When detectives later went to the suspect’s home, they did not find him.  They did, however, find a stolen firearm as well as two bags of paintballs—containing 1,000 paint pellets.

On March 2nd, the suspect came to the Berkeley Police Department to self-surrender for his arrest warrant.

Yesterday, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Daylon Davis with 245(a)(4) PC—assaulting a person by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and 29800 PC—Felon in possession of a firearm.

The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in keeping our community safe.  We appreciate the public’s support and are pleased that we were able to bring justice to those who wish to do harm to our community.
