A fatal collision involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian is under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team

INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Luna Road / Princeton Drive, Victorville
DRIVER: Myrtle Meggs, 70-year-old resident of Victorville
PEDESTRIAN: Manuel Fernandez, 89-year-old resident of Victorville
SUMMARY: On Monday, March 9, 2020, at approximately 4:32 pm, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the intersection of Luna Road and Princeton Drive for reports of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. When deputies arrived on scene, they located Manuel Fernandez on Luna Road with serious injuries.
Through investigation, it was determined Fernandez was walking south on Princeton Drive, crossing Luna Road. Myrtle Meggs was driving a white Chrysler minivan east on Luna Road, approaching Princeton Drive. For reasons still under investigation, Meggs did not see Fernandez crossing the street and her vehicle struck Fernandez.
Fernandez was airlifted to a local trauma center. Despite lifesaving measures he succumbed to his injuries.
