On 03-10-20, the Green Bay Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) and Community Police Unit (CP’s) partnered together in a combined effort to bring traffic awareness and enforcement to the neighborhoods and streets surrounding several Green Bay school zones.

A week before this deployment, a press release (including a Facebook post) was sent out notifying the public that this traffic enforcement activity would be taking place. The ultimate goal being total compliance with the motorists around our schools. In lieu of compliance, the officers would then have an opportunity to make contact with drivers and pedestrians that were not in compliance with state law and/ or city ordinance.

The deployment consisted of eight officers patrolling these areas starting at around 7:00am, for approximately six hours, monitoring driving and pedestrian movements and activities.

When the deployment was complete, the enforcement totals were 37 traffic citations issued along with 31 written warnings issued.

The most common traffic violation that was noted was speeding. A total of 21 citations and 21 written warnings were issued for that violation alone.

A total of 49 traffic stops were conducted by the officers during the time frame mentioned above.

The Green Bay Police Department is intent on continuing the crusade of “SLOW DOWN GREEN BAY”. Officers will continue to be assigned to these types of deployments in the spirit of this year’s traffic initiative.

The goal is to increase safety through the improvement of attentive driving, obeying the speed limit, yielding to pedestrians and obeying traffic signals.
