Advisory

UPDATED COVID-19 INFORMATION

The status of the COVID-19 situation is constantly changing.  As of this afternoon, 29 people in Contra Costa County have tested positive for COVID-19, although this number is expected to increase as more testing is conducted and the virus is spread.

The Governor's office issued an advisory today that all people over the age of 65 should stay home, not go out and not socialize with others.  A number of businesses (bars, wineries, clubs, etc.) were also ordered to close to limit social interactions and exposure to the virus.  The Contra Costa County Health Department issued an order prohibiting gatherings of over 100 people.  Additional regulations may be forthcoming as the situation changes.

These moves are bold, aggressive and being done early to slow the spread of the virus and are modeled after what has been done in other countries.  When social and travel restrictions have been set and social interactions limited, the result has been fewer people being infected and there has been a reduced impact upon the healthcare system.  The fear is that if we do nothing, more people will become infected, the number of illnesses will increase and the healthcare system will become overrun, potentially resulting in more fatalities.  At this point, we do not know how long these restrictions will be in effect.  Current, accurate information can be found on the Contra Costa County Health Services website at www.coronavirus.cchealth.org.

The following is being done in Moraga:
** All public schools are closed.
** The County Library will be closed beginning tomorrow.
** A limited number of Town staff will be working, but most Town business will be conducted via telephone or computer.  The Town Hall will be closed.
** Both Moraga Police and Moraga-Orinda Fire are on duty.  However, most police reports will be taken by telephone.

As a reminder, if you call for help regarding someone who is ill, please  advise the Dispatcher that the person is sick and describe their symptoms.  If possible, please have that person wear a mask when the first responders arrive.  All of this is being done to provide first responders with advanced information so they can wear the appropriate personal protective equipment to avoid being contaminated, which would reduce our ability to assist other residents who need help.

The Town will continue to provide information regarding the COVID-19 situation as it is received.  Please continue to support each other in our community during these trying times.  Thank you in advance for your support of our police officers and firefighters as they are on the front lines doing their best to keep our community safe.
