GBPD response to COVID-19

With the uncertainty of the rapidly changing circumstances which surround each and every one of us with the Covid-19 pandemic, the Green Bay Police Department wants to reassure the community that we are working with you, for you, and helping you through the national COVID-19 pandemic. Officers will always respond to police calls, staff will always answering the phones, and we are here to ensure we continue to provide the citizens of Green Bay with a high level of service. We will continue to be the calm voice and help those in need.
In the effort to protect officers and the community by minimizing the exposure to the COVID 19, the Green Bay Police Department is changing some protocols to help fight this pandemic. Many of these actions will not be noticed by community members, as we will maintain our high level of service. The department has enacted the following external and internal procedures:
• All non-employees are prohibited from entering the police department.
• All department tours, presentations, training, and travel have been suspended.
• Officers will encourage “Social Distancing.”
• Officers may ask you to step outside to talk as a practice of social distancing.
• Officer are given the discretion to investigate incidents over the phone.
• We encourage residents to complete an on line report https://report.gbpolice.org/
• Employees may call complainants back and initiate a report which can be followed up on at a later date.
• Officers are authorized to make phone contact with complainants in situations where face-to-face contact isn’t required.
• Tours, ride alongs, fingerprints, out of state travel, trainings and roll call are suspended.
• We are implementing a telecommuting procedure for employees to work off site.
We will always be available and accessible to the community. We feel that by offering additional options to our staff, we are minimizing exposure, keeping them healthy, and at the same time serving our citizens. We want to assure the community we will always respond to priority calls and emergencies. We want to maintain our high level of service while doing what we can to protect our employees and community members at the same time. Together we can do our part to overcome the COVID 19 pandemic.

Chief Smith or Cmdr. Warych will be available for comment anytime after 3:30 PM.
