Advisory

6pm Wednesday Update; Mayor’s Message; Firearms ID/Handgun Purchase Permits

Mayor Carley's Message:
Mayor Carley wanted to assure our residents that, together, we will get through this crisis. “I’m proud of how our community has come together to face this unprecedented challenge. Families are practicing social distancing, tending to the needs of those who are unable to help themselves, keeping each other in good spirits, working, teaching and learning from afar, all of which we have come to expect of our amazing community. Thank you for doing what needs to be done to defeat this pandemic!”

LATEST STATE/COUNTY UPDATES:  Each afternoon the Middlesex County Health Department notifies South Brunswick officials of the most recent positive cases in the Township. Health officials anticipate that we will continue to see an increase in cases over the coming days as more tests are conducted. Today we were notified about 3 new positive cases; a male in his 20's and a male in his 30's are both recovering at home. A male in his 70's remains at an area hospital for treatment.

Firearms ID Card or Handgun Purchase Permits:

  • For residents applying for a Firearms ID Card or Handgun Permit(s):
While there are mandated closures of Gun Dealerships and Fingerprinting Facilities, we are still accepting new applications. Our department will do its best to process your applications as quickly as possible, however please be aware that there may be delays.

  • For residents with a currently open Firearms ID Card or Handgun Permit(s) Applications:
If you already have an application on file with us, you have a choice to put your application on hold until notice of resumed services, so that your permits will not expire prior to the re-opening of these establishments. Please email your request to postpone your application to [email protected] . Otherwise, your application will continue along in the process.

  • Completed/Approved Firearms ID Card or Handgun Permit(s) Applications:
Due to COVID-19, the Municipal Building is currently closed to the public.  Once your application process has been completed and your Firearms ID Card and/or Permits are ready, you will be sent an email with instructions on how you will receive your documents. Please be aware that Permits to Purchase a Handgun have an initial 90-day expiration date and Gun Dealerships are currently closed by mandated order. If you would like to delay the issuing of your ID card or Permit, please contact [email protected]  with your request.
