Town of Danville April 3 Update

Town COVID-19 Update:  4.3.20

County Recommends Wearing Masks in Public

At a press briefing today, Contra Costa Health’s Dr. Chris Farnitano recommended that in order to further limit potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, residents should wear masks while conducting business in public.  This recommendation follows in line with a similar one from the Centers for Disease Control.  Masks are difficult to come by, so residents can also cover up their faces with scarves or bandanas.

Group Play/Training/Outdoor Gatherings

Despite the recent extension of the Stay at Home Order, we continue to get a number of calls regarding groups getting together outside. Some examples of what we are seeing are:  sports teams practicing (groups of teens with adult coaches), groups of teens tailgating in parking lots, and fitness trainers continuing to see clients.

We can not stress strongly enough that it is crucial for people to discontinue these group activities until the shelter order is rescinded. Our police department is dispersing these groups when we see them or they are reported to us.

By the same token, we continue to see numbers of gardeners and landscapers coming into Town despite the shelter order. Please communicate to your service people that under the county order they should be sheltering in place. The only exceptions to this order are if the person is coming to do emergency work where there is a life safety component, such as a tree limb falling/about to fall or weed abatement during fire season. Residents should be aware that if they are continuing to ask their gardeners to come and do aesthetic work (non-emergency) that both they, and their employee, are in violation of the shelter order, which is a misdemeanor.

The Danville Police Department is doing the best it can to respond to the calls we are receiving about these violations. But it is taking resources away from the police department’s patrol unit to have to check these calls. We ask residents to discontinue these activities.

Town Council to Hold Online Virtual Meeting

The Danville Town Council will be holding a special virtual meeting online at 5:00 p.m. on April 7, 2020 using the Zoom app. The agenda for the meeting, along with the information residents will need to log in and participate will be posted on Monday on the Town’s website, as well as on our social media platforms.

How Can You Help?

We are very fortunate to have great support from our community. It has been gratifying and inspiring to see neighbors helping one another out.  If you are looking for information on how you can provide assistance during this time of crisis, the Town’s coronavirus webpage www.danville.ca.gov/howcanihelp has excellent volunteer resources. Additionally, on the social media platform Nextdoor in the top right corner there is a ‘Help Map’ where neighbors can help one another.

Arts/Crafts and How to #FindtheFun

The Town of Danville’s coronavirus resource page www.danville.ca.gov/findthefun  is a great way to get information on how the town is responding to the ongoing virus issue.  What it also does is provide some suggestions and ideas on how to keep families engaged by offering suggestions for activities on the #FindtheFun page.  Videos and posts are being put up on the Town’s Facebook pages www.facebook.com/danvilleca and www.facebook.com/danvillevillagetheatre as well as the Recreation and Town Instagram pages @danvilleparksca and @townofdanvilleca.
