County Amends Health Order & Indoor Dining at Restaurants Ordered to Close Immediately - Press Release:

County Amends Health Order in Alignment with State of California
Indoor Dining at Restaurants Ordered to Close Immediately

Manhattan Beach, CA (July 1, 2020) - Following Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement to shut down various industries in response to surging Coronavirus cases, the County of Los Angeles has revised their public health order requiring the closure of the following sectors for 21 days:
  • Indoor, in-person dining at restaurants (including at malls and shopping centers);
  • Indoor museums, indoor children’s museums, and indoor operations at zoos and aquariums; and
  • Cardrooms and satellite wagering facilities.
The Order is effective immediately and viewable on the County and City's website.

Los Angeles County is reporting increases in community spread of COVID-19. Currently, there are 1,889 people hospitalized, representing the largest number of people hospitalized since early May.

In Manhattan Beach, positive coronavirus cases have increased from 80 cases on June 1 to 137 cases on July 1, representing a 71% increase over a month.

“While these actions are unfortunate, I understand the severe circumstances we are responding to across the County. COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are increasing. Just as we did in April and May, we must take public health measures such as wearing face coverings and practicing social distancing. We were able to flatten the curve before and we’re certainly capable of doing it again,” said Mayor Richard Montgomery.

According to the Health Order, indoor dining must be closed but outdoor dining, drive-thru, delivery and carry out can continue. The City recognizes the impacts this places on restaurants specifically. In early June, the City Council approved a temporary outdoor dining and business use program which allows restaurants and businesses to use adjacent public parking spaces to accommodate social distancing measures required by State and County protocols to limit the spread of COVID-19. While the application period for that program ended June 22, any business interested in expanding their outdoor dining onto private property may reach out to the Community Development Department at [email protected] or call 310-802-5520 to pursue an Outdoor Facilities Permit.

The City continues to promote and advocate for the measures taken by Public Health officials to limit the spread of COVID-19. The City strongly recommends that the community comply with these requirements as they have been shown to significantly contribute to the decline in positive coronavirus cases.

County Health Orders require that you always wear a face covering securely over your nose and mouth and keep six feet apart from others not in your household when out and about. Businesses must continue to follow Public Health directives, or risk being reported to the County Public Health Department and possibly shut down.

It is the community’s shared responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19. By adhering to social distancing, wearing face coverings, being safer at home, hand washing, and avoiding crowds, confined spaces, and close contact, we can collectively mitigate future surges in coronavirus cases.
