INCIDENT: Homicide Investigation
LOCATION: Railroad Right of Way North of 2150 First Street.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at about 4:18 PM, Simi Valley Police Officers responded to an Assault With a Deadly Weapon call near the railroad tracks north of 2150 First St. Simi Valley Police Dispatch advised responding officers that a nearby Security Guard was approached by a female victim who stated she and her boyfriend were stabbed. Upon arrival, the 30-year-old female and Simi Valley resident, led officers to the location of her boyfriend, a 26-year-old from Simi Valley. This male victim was deceased due to multiple stab wounds.

Simi Valley Police Officers obtained suspect information and set up a perimeter in the area. The suspect, later identified as Julio Martinez-Diaz, 40-year-old from Los Angeles, was located within the perimeter hiding in the bushes. Martinez-Diaz was arrested for 187 PC-Homicide and 664/187 PC-Attempt Homicide. Martinez-Diaz was transported to a local trauma center for an injury he received during the incident. The female victim was also transported to a local trauma center for medical treatment.

The Preliminary Investigation revealed a confrontation occurred at a Homeless Camp near the railroad right of way located north of 2150 First Street. During the incident, Martinez-Diaz stabbed the victims.

As the investigation continued, Simi Valley Police Department Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. This is still an active investigation and some details cannot be released to the public due to legal and investigative reasons. There are no outstanding suspects or additional victims in this case.
