Traffic Safety Task Force Assisting in Lowriders Weekend
The Yakima/Klickitat County Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force will be sponsoring a DUI emphasis patrol Saturday night, August 28, 2010. The Task Force will mobilize officers from multiple Yakima County Law Enforcement agencies including Grandview, Sunnyside, Yakima Sheriff’s Office, Toppenish, Union Gap, Moxee, Yakima PD and the Washington State Patrol. The officers working the patrols will be looking for drivers who have had too much to drink and didn’t plan ahead for a designated driver. The patrols will assist Yakima City and Union Gap with the influx of traffic and lend a hand to the local law enforcement agencies.
This statewide enforcement patrol will remove impaired drivers from our roads. Impaired driving caused by alcohol – or some other drug – is the primary reason why people die in motor vehicle. Officers will also be on the lookout for people who speed, drive aggressively, are not wearing a seatbelt, talking on cell phones while driving or violate other traffic laws.
Here are some tips for people who are planning to have a drink over the weekend:
Remember to think ahead:
· Make plans for a sober ride home before going out
· Arrange to stay overnight
· Use a taxi
· Take the car keys of impaired friends and arrange a safe ride home for them
Officers will also be working in the City of Yakima, the City of Union Gap and surrounding county roads. There will be DRE’s (Drug Recognition Experts) available for officers to utilize for drug impaired drivers.
