Remington Police Conduct Traffic Safety Checkpoint for Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. Campaign
Remington, VA – The national Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. crackdown that launched on August 20 includes the use of sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols, especially during high-risk nighttime hours.
Remington Police conducted a Checkpoint on Saturday August 28, 2010 in support of the national crackdown. The checkpoint was set up on East Main St. between the hours of 8:00 PM and 12:00AM.
A total of six summonses were issued along with an arrest for DUI 3rd Offense, Driving while Revoked, and Reckless Driving. One summons was issued for Driving while Suspended and for No Operator’s License.
“The crackdown campaign runs through the Labor Day weekend and Remington Police officers will be out in full force to help get more impaired drivers off local roadways,” said Sgt. Charles Proffitt. Driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 grams per deciliter or higher is illegal in all 50 States.
Yet in 2008 alone, nearly 12,000 people were killed in U.S. motor vehicle crashes that involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a BAC of .08 g/dL or higher, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“It’s clear that too many people still don’t understand that impaired driving is no accident — nor is it a victimless crime,” said Sgt. Proffitt. “So our message to motorists is simple and unwavering: if you get caught driving while impaired, you will be arrested. No exceptions.”
